Mixing it up and trying new recipes is an essential part of enjoying the journey as well as continuously feeding your body with an array of nutrients. If you are like me, it is so easy to get stuck in the same- same foods and especially when it comes to protein sources.Todays recipe is both simple and easy and super tasty and a great way to include a lean protein source such as calamari as a part of your diet. We know once you make this recipe you will love the nutty, spicy and fresh flavours this dish has to offer. 

Serves 4 Per serve including cauliflower rice

  • 400g calamari tubes 
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 broccoli cut into small florets
  • 1 capsicum thinly sliced
  • 200g bean shoots
  • 1 onion thinly sliced
  • 4 Birdseye chilli thinly sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves thinly sliced
  • 3cm piece ginger finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp sweet soy
  • 4 tbsp light soy 
  • 2 tbsp crushed peanuts to garnish
  • Coriander leaves to garnish
  • Lime wedges to garnish
  • 1 cauliflowers worth of cauliflower rice (optional)


  1. Open up calamari tubes, scrape them to remove any remaining beak then finely score in a criss cross pattern, cut into diamond shapes 4 cm long 
  2. Heat oil in a wok/frying pan until smoking 
  3. Add calamari and fry for 30 seconds, then add all of the veggies and fry for 2 minutes 
  4. Add chilli, garlic, ginger and both soy sauces and turn down heat to low
  5. Cook for 1 minute and serve either alone or on cauliflower rice
  6. Garnish with peanuts, coriander and lime wedge and serve immediately
